St Canice’s Neighbourhood Hall cordially Invites you to,

“A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood”
A showcase day for all our service users

On June 20th we are turning one half of our hall into an Art Exhibition space where we will display arts and crafts created by some of our service users such as watercolour paintings, hand-woven baskets and copper-wire jewelry from our service users and a selection of paintings from a neuro-diverse children’s art workshop. We will also be displaying a giant map of Ukraine made out of hand-woven stars for Amber Women’s Refuge “One Million Stars” campaign.

The Exhibition will be open from 11am – 4pm

The other half of our hall will be turned into a mini theatre where we will be hosting 3 different shows throughout the day.

12pm – “Bearly Poetry”

A work-in-progress performance of a one-man show by Kilkenny-born poet, Savage Cabbage preceded by a rehearsed reading of “The Gossip Column” which is a short comedy sketch devised, written and performed by members of the Kilkenny Women’s Group and facilitated by Steve Nolan(Savage Cabbage).

2pm – “Outstageous”

An improvised comedic theatre show devised and performed by Dreamstuff Youth Theatre.

4pm – “Where Old Ghosts Meet”

A celebration of the renowned Irish poet, Patrick Kavanagh by PLAYACTIN’ Kilkenny. The show is adapted and directed by Geoff Rose and performed by Jimmy Rhatigan.

All shows are free of charge and on a first come, first served basis so get there early in order to be sure of availability. Tea/coffee and treats will be provided free of charge with a voluntary donation box on site for those of you who feel inclined to support us and the work we facilitate.

Free 6-week Course

Parenting when separated can be difficult, and how it is managed has a significant impact on children. This 6 week course is for parents who are going through or have gone through separation or divorce. The focus of the course is positive and aims to build on your strengths as a parent and what you are already doing right. It is facilitated by two accredited practitioners.

The Parents Plus Parenting When Separated Programme aims to help you:

  • Understand the impact of separation on parents and children
  • Establish a positive cooperative co-parenting relationship
  • Communicate more effectively with your child’s other parent and your child
  • Manage successful contact and handovers
  • Manage Conflict and Challenges
  • Develop personal coping and stress management skills

Next course starts Monday September 13th, 2024 10.00 – 12.30, via zoom

Navigating Anxiety & Big Emotions through Mindfulness

A FREE 4 week mindfulness programme for children ages 9 – 12 with supporting information for parents.

LIMITED SPACES AVAILABLE SO BOOK YOUR PLACE QUICKLY.

The Children’s’ Group will meet for 4 weeks each Thursday from 4.00 – 5.30 pm
starting 6th July 2023, in the Fr McGrath Family Resource Centre,
The Parents Group will meet at the same time and venue (separate room) on week 1 and week 4.

Children
‘The Mindful Heart Programme’ Facilitated by Sinead will provide 4 Weekly sessions delivered through story’s & creative activities
Week 1 – Gratitude
Week 2 – Thoughts and Emotions
Week 3 – Being a Friend to our Emotions
Week 4 – Here & Now / Mindfulness
(Being present in the moment)

Parents
Parents Groups Facilitated by Karin & Wendy will provide advice and support to parents around supporting their children’s emotions.
Week 1 – Coffee & Chat, Information on the content of the course and how to support your children during attendance of the programme
Week 4 – Coffee & Chat, Information on Parenting Supports and Tips on Supporting Children’s Emotions. Parenting 24-seven information and advice.
