We are delighted to announce that the NUIM Return to Learning Level 5, designed and delivered in partnership with the Kilkenny Job Club and the Fr. McGrath Centre will take place next January 2014. There are a limited number of places available. Return to Learning Level 5 NUI Certificate Foundation Course Introduction. This Certificate level course is designed as a stepping stone for those who wish to return to study, but have not studied in any formal way for a number of years. Participants will be given the opportunity to sample a number of academic subjects so that they will be able to make a more informed choice when selecting subjects later.
Subjects on offer for the Return to Learning Certificate at the Kilkenny Campus have included, Study Skills, History/Heritage & Tourism, Community Development, Creative Writing and Psychology. Please note: this list of subjects may change in the future. Students who obtain a First Class Honours or Second Class Honours Grade 1 will be offered a place on the Full-time Bachelor of Arts degree programme in the university. NB However, please be aware that the age to access Full-Time undergraduate study remains at 23 years of age on 1st January in year of application.
Course Aims – The course aims to familiarise people with the structure and requirements of third level education; to equip them with some of the necessary skills required and help them identify the subjects or courses that they may later wish to undertake.
Course Content ̍ Motivation and Goals, Taking Notes, Writing Skill, Reading Skills, Library Skills.
Introduction to Certificate (Level 7) and Degree (Level 8) subjects Admission. Requirements -Participants must be 21 years of or over on 1st January 2013, have a capacity to complete a course at NUI Certificate level, Have good written and oral English Assessment Procedures ̍ 85% minimum attendance, Research Project, Participation in Class, Essay based on Learning Journal ̍ 2 Subject Essays Course Duration This course is 100 hours in duration, running from January 2014 to May 2014. Classes will take place 3 mornings per week (Monday, Wednesday & Thursday) from 9.30am to 12.30pm Fee: €900This course has been designed and delivered in partnership with the Kilkenny Jobs Club and the Fr. McGrath Centre. A fee waiver will apply for qualifying students in receipt of certain unemployment payments. Full fees apply to all other students. Closing Date for Applications Monday 18th November 2013. All courses are offered on condition that enrolment numbers reach a satisfactory level.
