Great write-up below from The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed – December 2014 Issue

The staff of Kilkenny Job Club and the Voluntary Board of the Fr. McGrath Centre welcomed local Labour Party TD, Ann Phelan to a recognition luncheon to celebrate the success of the 2013-2014 Job Club Participants on Friday 28th November.

This event marked the success of Job Club clients since last year. These are individuals who have returned to the employment market, returned to education to gain new skills, taken on internships to gain experience or even made the decision to start their own business.

Many former clients attended the event and dozens called or emailed to say that they couldn’t make it due to the fact that they were working. With 84 employment placements already this year, it is expected that more than 100 of them will have come off the live register by Christmas and have returned to the labour market.

The Job Club team are rightly proud of the fact that more than a thousand unemployed people availed of the Job Club training programme in the past two years. Even more have availed of their drop-in and IT services and supports. They have broken all performance and target records and are now regarded as one of the most successful Job Club teams in Ireland.

Drop-in use for the IT centre peaked in the month of September with 142 people availing of the service that month on a drop-in basis on top of Job Club programme clients who use the facilities daily. They have already recorded a 121% increase on usage from 2013 with 885 visits recorded already for 2014.

The Kilkenny Job Club wishes their clients and team an even better 2015 and acknowledge that none of the remarkable success of the Job Club in the past two years could have happened without the Job Club staff and the Job Bridge interns and Tus workers who have helped make the project the success it has become.
